Jonathan Baltora, AXA IM’s Head of Sovereign, Inflation and FX, takes us through the basics of inflation and a brief introduction to what inflation-linked bonds are. Our Inflation Series aims to make inflation-linked bonds simpler to potential investors, as it is often perceived as a complex asset class. Inflation is the term used to describe the evolution of prices. As prices rise, people’s ability to purchase goods and services (known as purchasing power) falls. How quickly prices rise is called the rate of inflation.
Watch the other 3 videos in our Inflation Series to find out more about why inflation is a global phenomenon, discover what « inflation breakevens » are and how inflation-linked bonds are indexed.
